The NCDHHS/ Forensic Tests for Alcohol (FTA) Branch presented its BAT Mobile Unit as a field-based solution for impaired driving enforcement and processing. Attendees were able to walk through the unit and see how it is set up to support law enforcement operations, including standardized field sobriety testing, arrest processing, and evidential breath alcohol testing using approved instrumentation. Staff demonstrated how the unit maintains proper testing conditions, supports chain-of-custody requirements, and aligns with court admissibility standards.

CSC develops and tests rear and side impact guards to prevent underride and passenger compartment intrusion commonly seen in accident reconstruction of truck crashes.

FMCSA’s ACE Program research focuses on identifying and promoting best practices as well as developing tools to facilitate industry’s use of connected and automated CMVs. The ACE program has generated initial research questions and topics for the program’s new smart trailer research track. These include:

• How can smart trailer data be utilized for predictive/preventive maintenance?
• How can fleets operating automated CMVs effectively monitor regulated trailer equipment and safety systems in the absence of smart trailer data (e.g., with a standard trailer)?
• Research to inform communications standards and best practices for trailer-to-tractor communications and trailer (or tractor)-to-infrastructure communications.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol Post-Crash Inspection Trailer is a specialized, portable unit used by the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section to conduct immediate, on-site brake and safety inspections on commercial vehicles following crashes.

The Perceptics e-Screen Trailer integrates mobile vehicle and cargo screening into normal operations, allowing agencies to collect actionable data wherever it’s needed. Advanced imaging and recognition technologies capture vehicle information in real time and transmit it securely to existing systems. This enables informed decisions without disrupting workflows, while giving agencies the flexibility to expand coverage, respond to changing priorities, and maintain visibility beyond fixed sites.

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute’s (VTTI) Sharing the Road with Trucks program is an evidence-based community outreach program that conducts hands-on safety demonstrations that teach key strategies for safely interacting with tractor-trailers and other large trucks when encountering them on our roadways. The program not only teaches the key strategies but provides participants with a firsthand opportunity to see a tractor-trailer up close and experience the large blind spots from the truck driver’s seat.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol Mobile Command and Communications Unit is a specialized tactical asset used to manage traffic, security, and multi-agency coordination during large public events and emergencies. Operational uses of the Mobile Command include coordinating major events and crowd gatherings, managing complex traffic routing, congestion mitigation, and temporary no-fly zones, and conducting emergency response as a regional communication hub during natural disasters or critical incidents

Drivewyze is a software-based connected truck platform that provides commercial vehicle drivers and fleets with weigh station bypass opportunities, real-time safety alerts, and compliance services. It operates entirely through existing in-cab electronic logging devices (ELDs), telematics systems, or mobile apps without needing a physical transponder.

The Haenni WL101 & WL108 portable wheel load scales were demonstrated here along with optional leveling mats and the standalone EC120 processing unit.

Acusensus demonstrated its Real-Time Heads-Up enforcement solution for Distracted Driving and Seatbelt Compliance, along with Data Collection.

Intercomp demonstrated an advanced split scale used to balance weight between dual tires to improve truck stability, fuel economy, and braking.
